Lifeguarding will help you develop skills and experience that will be valued by colleges and future employers. It's a great way to demonstrate what you can offer. Colleges and employers look for applicants who can deal effectively with people, who have a take charge attitude and who are willing to work to develop new skills.
Through classroom learning and hands-on practice, you'll learn:
Surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries
Rescue skills - in the water and on land
First aid training and professional rescuer CPR - to help you prepare for any emergency
Professional lifeguard responsibilities like interacting with the public
Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR/AED Certifications are Valid for Two (2) Years
CPR / AED Certification / Recertification
Initial certification or recertification for Lifeguards or Professional Rescuers in the latest American Red Cross curriculum.
This program will teach the skills needed to respond appropriately to respiratory and cardiac emergencies. Techniques for Adults, Children, and Infants are demonstrated as well as how to utilize and operate an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
CPR/AED Certifications are Valid for Two (2) Years
Preventing Disease Transmission / Bloodborne Pathogens
This course provides Lifeguards and other aquatic staff personnel with an understanding of the intent of the Bloodborne Pathogens regulation issued by the OSHA; how disease transmission occurs; diseases of greatest concern; precautions to prevent disease transmission; and what to do if an exposure occurs.
This course satisfies the Bloodborne Pathogens training requirement as set forth by OHSA for Lifeguards and aquatics staff.

Safety Training for Swim Coaches - Fast Track Option
Effective since 1988, all coach members are required to fulfill safety training requirements as established by the USA Swimming Board of Directors. USA Swimming currently requires coach members to present evidence of having successfully completed and passed the following courses: Safety Training for Swim Coaches, CPR, and First Aid.
This course satisfies those requirement and can be delivered with CPR/AED/First Aid, or stand-only as STSC. Students will be requied to complete this program in a blended format - online and in-person.
